How to reach Ushuaia by air?

The easiest and most common way to reach Ushuaia is by plane. The city has an international airport (Malvinas Argentinas International Airport, code USH) that is served by several airlines, including Aerolineas Argentinas, LATAM, and Sky Airline. Flights to Ushuaia are available from Buenos Aires and other major cities in Patagonia like El Calafate.

The international airport was inaugurated in 1995. It has a 3000 mts long track, day and night air navigation systems, and a modern service infrastructure ready to receive any type of aircraft, from the smallest to the most modern Boeing or Air Bus crafts.

Ushuaia receives many flights from Aeroparque Jorge Newbery, and Ezeiza International Airport Ministro Pistarini. Ushuaia is located 3 hours flight and you have an average of 6 to 12 flights, depending on the season. During summer, there are more frequencies due to the high season. Ushuaia is usually combined with El Calafate, so some flights come from this city in Patagonia.

How to reach Ushuaia by land?

Ushuaia is connected to the Argentine mainland by a network of highways, and there are several long-distance bus companies that offer services to and from the city. However, the journey can be long and tiring, as the roads are often unpaved and the terrain is rugged. For example check some distances from Ushuaia to different cities located in the souther portion of Patagonia in Argentina and Chile:

Rio Gallegos, Argentina – 728 km (452 miles) to the north
Punta Arenas, Chile – 702 km (436 miles) to the west
El Calafate, Argentina – 517 km (321 miles) to the north
Puerto Natales, Chile – 362 km (225 miles) to the west
Río Grande, Argentina – 142 km (88 miles) to the north

It’s important to note that these distances are approximate and may vary depending on the specific route taken. The terrain in this region is also rugged and can be difficult to traverse, particularly in the winter months when snow and ice can make driving hazardous. It’s always a good idea to check road conditions and weather forecasts before embarking on a trip in this part of the world.
