Our adventure begins along National Route No. 3, passing through the Río Pipo valley and the slopes of Monte Susana, before reaching the Austral Fueguino Railway station. This historic site was once where Ushuaia’s prison inmates collected firewood.
At the station, you can explore the facilities and, if you’d like, board the End of the World Train (ticket not included), while others continue their journey into Tierra del Fuego National Park. The group will reunite at the Park Station to visit some of the park’s most stunning spots, including Roca Lake and Lapataia Bay, the southernmost point of National Route No. 3 and the Pan-American Highway.
Along the way, we’ll enjoy short walks to discover the park’s diverse native forest and spot local wildlife that call Argentina’s southernmost national park home.
After a lunch break, we’ll embark on an unforgettable Beagle Channel navigation. We’ll head toward the iconic Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse, one of Ushuaia’s symbols. As we pass through the Bridges archipelago, we’ll observe sea lion colonies and imperial cormorants, along with other bird species such as gulls, petrels, albatrosses, and geese. If weather permits, we’ll disembark on one of the islands for a short walk, where you can explore the local flora and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Ushuaia and its surrounding mountains.
After visiting the lighthouse, we’ll return along the northern coast of the Beagle Channel, passing Estancia Túnel, the Playa Larga Natural and Cultural Reserve, and the eastern outskirts of Ushuaia before disembarking at the pier. The evening is free for you to explore Ushuaia at your leisure.
On the second day, we’ll head out of Ushuaia on National Route No. 3, traveling north through Tierra del Fuego’s remarkable landscapes. We’ll cross the Fuegian Andes, a mountain range that runs from west to east, passing through peat bog valleys like Carbajal, Tierra Mayor, and Las Cotorras.
At the Garibaldi Pass (450 meters / 1,476 feet above sea level), we’ll stop to admire a panoramic view of Escondido and Fagnano Lakes—perfect for a photo op of this remote Patagonian landscape. At the edge of Lake Fagnano, we’ll take a brief break to soak in the peaceful surroundings of this untouched wilderness.
On our return journey, we’ll enjoy a traditional Patagonian feast: the Asado de Cordero Fueguino (Fuegian lamb barbecue). Other menu options, like pasta and international dishes, are also available. Pair your meal with a glass of Malbec wine from Mendoza, and don’t forget to try Café Montañés, a local specialty.
This excursion is one of the best ways to experience the heart of Tierra del Fuego. As weather conditions can change quickly, we recommend wearing comfortable and layered clothing. In winter, the tour will focus only on Escondido Lake, as heavy snowfall makes Fagnano Lake inaccessible. The region is also great for winter activities, such as Nordic skiing in Tierra Mayor and Carbajal Valleys—be sure to check available options if visiting during the snowy months.
Please note that between May 1 and October 1, we will exclusively visit Escondido Lake due to winter conditions preventing access to Fagnano Lake.
